A chilling crime has shaken the usually quiet suburbs of Brisbane, as a 17-year-old boy faces a raft of serious charges including torture and deprivation of liberty. The teenager’s alleged victim, a 15-year-old boy, was left shaken but thankfully alive after a brutal attack involving a hammer and knife.
According to police, the 17-year-old had connected with his victims – a 14-year-old and 15-year-old – on social media earlier in the day. The group of four then drove to Redbank Plains, where the 17-year-old allegedly produced a knife and threatened the younger boys. In a desperate bid to escape, both boys fled the car, but the 15-year-old was caught and forced into the boot.
As the car was driven to the New Chum area, the 15-year-old was allegedly subjected to a terrifying ordeal, with the 17-year-old boy removing him from the boot and assaulting him with a hammer and knife. The attack lasted for approximately 20 minutes, during which time the victim was left fearing for his life.
“It is alleged the car was then driven to the New Chum area, where the boy was removed from the boot and assaulted with a hammer and a knife,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said in a statement. “The boy was subjected to further assaults and threats for about 20 minutes, before he fled and sought assistance from a member of the public.”
The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. The 14-year-old boy, who was also threatened with a knife, miraculously escaped without physical injury.
As the investigation continues, police have urged anyone with information to come forward. The 17-year-old boy has been charged with a string of serious offences, including deprivation of liberty, armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm, wounding, torture, and possession of a drug utensil. He is due to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court on Monday.
