Dave Hughes’ health woes have taken a devastating turn, with the comedian finding himself back in hospital just six weeks after a brutal AFL Legends game left him with five broken ribs and a punctured lung.
In a shocking update, Hughes revealed on social media that he was once again hospitalised, this time with fluid in his lungs. The 54-year-old comedian’s Instagram post showed him lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines, with a caption that read: “The experts are draining a couple of litres of lung fluid into a goon bag for me. Then it’s party time again.”
The Legends game, which took place in August, saw Hughes represent Victoria against a team of former AFL players. During the match, he was on the receiving end of brutal bumps from Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe, and Mitch Robinson. Hughes believes the main damage came from a collision with 2006 Norm Smith medallist Embley.
In a heartfelt apology, Embley said: “I just want to say that I am so sorry for my little thump on you last night that has obviously caused so much damage, you look so sore right now. How brave were you, big fella, to continue with the game?”
Despite his health struggles, Hughes managed to maintain his sense of humour, taking to social media to vent about the constant beeping noise in his hospital room. “You know what kills you about hospitals?” he said. “Not the risk of infection. It’s just the beeping. Someone shut the fridge, for f**k’s sake.”
As Hughes continues to recover, his fans will be holding their breath, hoping that the comedian makes a speedy and full recovery from his latest health scare.
