In a heart-stopping drama, three teenage boys have been charged following a reckless police pursuit through Sydney’s southwest, which saw them allegedly steal a car at knifepoint and speed through multiple suburbs before being caught.
The drama unfolded on Monday afternoon when police attempted to stop a silver Kia Stonic on Azalea Pl in Macquarie Fields around 1:15pm. However, the car allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued, with the vehicle speeding towards Minto and Ingleburn.
Dashcam footage captured the intense chase, which eventually ended when the car was stopped on Aero Rd in Ingleburn about 1:50pm. The three teenage boys – two aged 16 and one aged 15 – then ran from the scene but were quickly arrested nearby on Lancaster St.
According to police, the trio had allegedly stolen the car from Enmore around 2am on Monday, when it was stopped on Tupper St. The 19-year-old male driver was threatened with a knife and dragged out of the car, but miraculously escaped without injury.
The 16-year-old driver of the Kia was charged with multiple offences, including drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously. The other two boys were charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – in company. All three have been refused bail and will appear in a children’s court on Tuesday.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
