Three years to the day since her shocking disappearance, the remains of young Victorian woman Lucinda Miller have been found in a tragic breakthrough. The 24-year-old’s body was discovered in bushland in Victoria’s east, bringing a heartbreaking end to the desperate search for answers.
Lucinda’s family and loved ones have been left reeling after her disappearance in October 2022. She had taken a rideshare from Melbourne to Neerim South in Gippsland, but never arrived home. The last known sighting of Lucinda was when she was dropped off along a roadside at 11:30am.
A massive search effort was launched at the time, but yielded no results. However, police resumed their search on Tuesday, using dogs trained to sniff out electronic devices in the hope of finding Lucinda’s phone, which was never recovered. The search focused on a new location, approximately 2km north of the original search area.
The discovery of Lucinda’s remains has brought a sense of closure to the community, but also raises more questions about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Police have confirmed that her death is not being treated as suspicious, but the exact cause of her death is still unknown.
“Local police would like to extend their thanks to the Neerim South CFA, SES, DEECA and the AFP for their support and assistance,” police said in a statement, acknowledging the tireless efforts of volunteers and emergency services involved in the search.
As the community comes to terms with the tragic loss of Lucinda Miller, her family and loved ones will be remembering a bright and vibrant young woman who was taken far too soon.
