According to Wellington Police Service Area Inspector Wayne Rothwell, Mr Milne was found dehydrated but okay, after Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) responded to reports of a fire in the area. “His medical condition caused him to become confused,” Inspector Rothwell explained. “He visited a number of towns asking for directions back to Sale, the last location was at Omeo, then he headed down the Great Alpine Road and was sighted on CCTV at Swifts Creek.”
Inspector Rothwell revealed that Mr Milne had taken a track off the Great Alpine Road and moved through bush towards Buchan, where he eventually lit a fire to bring attention to himself. “It appears Troy has lit a fire to bring attention to himself,” he said.
