In a shocking discovery, police have uncovered a treasure trove of stolen Labubu dolls hidden away in a Melbourne property, with an estimated value of $9,000. The massive haul of 43 dolls, including rare limited edition ones worth a staggering $500 each, is believed to have been snatched from a CBD shopping centre in a series of daring burglaries since July.
The dramatic raid, which took place on Tuesday, saw officers storm the Webb Road property in Airport West, where they found the stolen dolls stashed away. A 40-year-old man has since been charged with burglary and theft, but has been granted bail and will appear in court in May 2026.
The popularity of Labubu dolls has skyrocketed in recent months, with fans lining up for hours outside flagship stores to get their hands on these coveted collectibles. But with great demand comes great temptation, and it seems that thieves have been taking advantage of the craze, targeting unsuspecting collectors and retailers.
One Labubu enthusiast, Rome Viduya, said that while the dolls are “cute, but also kinda ugly, which is really fun,” the prices have been inflated by resellers, making them a lucrative target for thieves. “Because they’re so sought after, in the aftermarket [the price] easily skyrockets,” Mr Viduya explained. “They [resellers] were asking upwards of $400 for one of the special boxes.”
Mr Viduya, who owns over 25 Labubus, has taken extra precautions to protect his own collection, fearing that they could be snatched from him in broad daylight. “I do unfortunately see the story of people getting their little Labubus cut right from their bags while they’re walking in the CBD,” he said.
As the investigation into the stolen Labubu dolls continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward, and collectors are being warned to remain vigilant and keep their prized possessions safe from prying eyes.
