Barnaby Joyce Warned: ‘It’ll End in Tears’ if He Joins Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
- Barnaby Joyce considering defection to One Nation, sparking warnings from former MP Rod Roberts
- Roberts, a former cop, claims One Nation’s “internal governance and internal operation” is flawed
- One Nation’s Pauline Hanson rejects accusations of misappropriating NSW electoral funds, saying party’s finances are regularly audited
A straight-shooting former cop turned politician has issued a dire warning to Barnaby Joyce, cautioning that a marriage with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation would be a recipe for disaster.
Rod Roberts, a former One Nation MP who fell out with the party, claims that Joyce’s potential defection would “end in tears”. Roberts, who aired scathing fraud allegations against One Nation under parliamentary privilege in 2023, says the party’s inner workings are its major Achilles’ heel.
“Barnaby is big enough and ugly enough to make his own decisions,” Roberts stated. “It’ll end in tears.”
The former veteran police officer, who was elected to the NSW upper house on the One Nation ticket, still supports the party’s political position but remains critical of its internal governance.
According to Roberts, the misappropriation of NSW electoral funds by the party’s federal executive “in excess of six figures” is just one example of One Nation’s flawed operation.
In response, Senator Hanson rejected the claims, stating that her party’s finances in NSW and nationally are subjected to regular audits by chartered accountants and state and federal electoral commissions.
However, Joyce’s potential move to One Nation has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many speculating about his next move.
Kevin Anderson, NSW Nationals MP representing Tamworth, described Joyce as a great advocate for the New England region but remained tight-lipped about the reasons behind his potential defection.
“You’ve got a better chance of picking the winner of the 2025 Melbourne Cup than picking which way Barnaby Joyce will go,” Anderson said.
