According to police, the incident occurred when officers approached the property in an unmarked car, prompting the 37-year-old woman to allegedly open fire. A bullet hole was later found near the wheel guard of the police vehicle, highlighting the terrifying proximity of the attack.
‘At this stage, investigators believe the residents did not realise it was police entering the property,’ Assistant Commissioner Adrian Bodnar revealed, shedding light on the shocking circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a scathing condemnation of the attack, Commissioner Bodnar declared, ‘Regardless, it is reprehensible that our officers were placed at such risk while performing their duties.’ He added, ‘This incident could have had tragic consequences, and it was extremely fortunate that no one was physically harmed.’
The woman, who has been charged with attempted murder and several firearms-related offences, was arrested along with a 38-year-old man, who faces charges of firearms offences and attempted aggravated assault. Both were found to be in possession of firearms when taken into custody.
