A former police officer’s life was brutally cut short in a shocking hit-and-run incident on the NSW North Coast, and now a 50-year-old man is facing a murder charge.
Dion Anthony Craig was arrested in South Grafton on Wednesday after being caught driving a vehicle linked to the death of the 55-year-old woman, who was struck by a car at the Ulmarra showground on October 28.
Emergency services received a call at 4pm on that fateful day, reporting a woman had been hit by a vehicle. Tragically, the former police officer died at the scene, leaving her family and friends in devastation.
According to police, the victim was walking her dogs at the time of the incident and had allegedly been involved in an argument with the driver of a four-wheel drive at the showground. In a heartbreaking turn of events, the pair were not known to each other before the fatal incident.
“The 55-year-old woman was walking her dogs prior to the incident,” a NSW Police spokesperson said. “Unfortunately, she died at the scene.”
Craig has been charged with murder and failure to disclose details of the driver or passenger as the owner of the vehicle. During an online hearing at the Local Court Bail Division, he was refused bail and is now expected to face Grafton Local Court in January.
