A sombre mood has settled over the Bundaberg Region after a tragic truck crash on the Bruce Hwy claimed the life of a driver, leaving the community in shock. The devastating incident occurred just before 9:30pm on Friday, when two large trucks collided near Duckpond Rd, Takilberan.
Witnesses described the scene as “absolute chaos” as both vehicles burst into flames, with one driver trapped and critically injured. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver sadly succumbed to their injuries.
The surviving truck driver, a young man in his 20s, was fortunate to have escaped the wreckage with minor wrist and facial injuries. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
Queensland Police have confirmed that traffic diversions are in place on the Bruce Hwy, with motorists in the area urged to expect delays. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
In a statement, Queensland Ambulance Service said, “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the driver who tragically lost their life in this incident.”
