The devastating collision, which occurred just after 6pm, involved two vehicles – a Toyota HiLux and a Toyota Fortuner – near Valentine Springs Road and Weero Road. The impact was so severe that it left five others fighting for their lives, with critical injuries sustained in the crash.
“The 36-year-old male driver and 27-year-old female passenger of the Hilux were airlifted to Darwin with critical injuries,” a WA Police spokesperson revealed in a statement, highlighting the dire situation. “The 30-year-old female driver of the second vehicle, a white Toyota Fortuner, was flown to Perth with serious injuries.”
In a heartbreaking development, two children who were in the same car suffered critical injuries and were also flown to Perth for urgent medical attention. The WA Police statement confirmed that Crash Investigators are expected to arrive in Kununurra on Tuesday to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The Victoria Highway remains closed between Valentine Springs Road and Weero Road, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes. As the community comes to terms with the devastating loss of life, police have urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward.
