In a devastating turn of events, a 30-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl have lost their lives in a horror car crash in the remote Aboriginal community of Doomadgee, North West Queensland.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday morning, when a vehicle rolled over on Doomadgee Road, approximately 400 kilometres north of Mount Isa. Emergency services were called to the scene around 6:30am, where they found the driver and four passengers with serious injuries.
The driver, a 30-year-old woman from Cloncurry, was administered first aid but sadly died at the scene. A 10-year-old girl, who was also a passenger, was transported to Doomadgee Hospital, where she was declared deceased.
Two other passengers were taken to Doomadgee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third passenger remains in a critical condition. The community has been left reeling in shock, with shops closing for Sorry Business and the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council offering condolences to the families of the victims on social media.
In a statement, the council urged residents to avoid the Doomadgee Road highway until further notice, as investigations continue. A crime scene has been declared, and police are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
