A Western Sydney man is fighting for his life after being savagely mauled by his own dogs in a shocking incident that has left the community reeling. The 54-year-old was attacked at his Doonside home on Thursday morning when he tried to intervene in a fight between three larger dogs and three smaller ones.
Emergency services were called to the property on Kildare Rd around 11am, where they found the man suffering from severe injuries to his head, chest, and arm. Paramedics treated him at the scene before rushing him to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
A CareFlight helicopter was initially dispatched to the scene, but the man was later transported by road due to the severity of his injuries. The attack is the latest in a string of dog-related incidents in Sydney, including a similar attack in Camperdown just last week that left a 55-year-old man fighting for life.
In September, 17-year-old Annalyse Blyton tragically died after being attacked by a large mixed-breed dog in Singleton. The incident has sparked concerns about dog safety and responsible pet ownership in the community.
Blacktown City Council has confirmed that six dogs were seized from the property, including three euthanised Bull Arab crossbreeds that were voluntarily surrendered by the owner. The Council is assisting NSW Police with their investigation into the incident.
The attack is a stark reminder of the dangers of aggressive dogs and the importance of responsible pet ownership. As the community rallies around the victim and his family, questions are being raised about how such a tragic incident could have occurred.
