The 43-year-old was shot four to five times in his shoulder as he disarmed the gunman, and his family has revealed he will undergo further surgery.
As the nation rallies around Ahmed, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a surprise visit to St George Hospital on Tuesday morning, where he praised the hero’s selfless actions. ‘He is a true Australian hero. He’s very humble.

Ahmed’s bravery has left even the toughest of politicians emotional. NSW Premier Chris Minns, who visited Ahmed on Monday evening, described the moment as ‘remarkable’.
