- Fresh court documents reveal alleged shooter Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid, 50, meticulously planned the attack, loading their car with weapons and explosives just hours before the massacre.
- Shocking CCTV footage shows the pair surveilling the site of the shooting two days prior, with Sajid checking the boot of the car and Naveed allegedly looking inside the back seat.
- The attack, which left 16 people dead and 40 injured, was allegedly motivated by a “religiously motivated violent extremist ideology”, with the pair seen reciting passages from the Quran and condemning “Zionists” in disturbing videos.
In a bombshell revelation, it has emerged that the alleged Bondi Beach terrorists, Naveed Akram and his father Sajid, spent months meticulously planning the devastating attack that left 16 people dead and 40 injured.
Court documents presented to the Sydney Downing Centre on Monday morning paint a chilling picture of the pair’s alleged preparations, which began weeks before the fateful night of December 14.
Stills from an Airbnb rented by Sajid show the pair loading their car with an arsenal of weapons and explosives at 2.14am on the morning of the attack. The haul included two single-barrel shotguns, a Beretta rifle, two Islamic State flags, and four “home-made” improvised explosive devices.
CCTV footage captured the pair leaving the home at 5.09pm, dressed in the same outfits they would later wear during the alleged attack. The car was then spotted parked on Ocean St in Woollahra at 6pm, where Sajid checked the boot of the car and Naveed allegedly looked inside the back seat.
The pair then drove to the footbridge, where they allegedly removed the firearms and IS flags from the car and placed them on the windshields. Moments later, they opened fire on the Channukah by the Sea event, unleashing a hail of bullets that left innocent bystanders running for their lives.
In a heartbreaking development, three pipe bombs and a tennis ball bomb were thrown towards the crowd, causing widespread panic and chaos. The attack was finally brought to an end when Sajid was shot and killed, and Naveed was critically injured.
A review of Naveed’s phone allegedly uncovered a number of disturbing videos and photos, including footage of the pair conducting “firearms training in a countryside location” and reciting passages from the Quran in front of an IS flag.
He issued a stark warning, saying: “The Accused and Sajid recite their political and religious views and appear to summarise their justification for the Bondi terrorist attack.”
Further investigations have revealed that the pair allegedly surveilled the site of the shooting over several days prior, with CCTV footage showing their car arriving at a nearby car park on December 12.
Naveed is expected to appear before court in April, where he will face 59 charges related to the attack.
