Police are frantically searching for a group of thugs behind a brazen crime spree that left a trail of chaos across south-east Queensland over the weekend. The incident began on Sunday afternoon, with Polair tracking several stolen vehicles involved in the alleged crime spree.
It’s believed the offenders’ rampage started with a stolen KTM motorcycle, which was spotted being ridden dangerously along Clipper St at Inala about 2pm. The motorbike had been reported stolen from a Moffat St home in Oxley on December 11.
As the drama unfolded, police allege the rider dumped the motorcycle and entered a white BMW X2, which had been reported stolen during a break and enter at a Tuggerah St address in North Booval on Saturday. The BMW was later abandoned at a service station on Ipswich Rd at Annerley, where a hit-and-run occurred, leaving a man in his 40s with non-life-threatening injuries.
In a shocking turn of events, the offenders allegedly stole an LDV T60 and continued their rampage, with police deploying tyre spikes to try and stop them. The stolen ute was eventually dumped on Centaurus St, and the offenders entered a Hyundai Veloster while armed with a knife.
A woman driving the Hyundai and her male passenger were allegedly forced to drive the offenders from the scene, sparking a desperate bid by police to catch the culprits. “In a heart-stopping development, the Hyundai stopped in a car park on Browns Plains Rd at Browns Plains, allowing the two victims to exit,” a police spokesperson said.
The alleged offenders then fled in the stolen Hyundai, abandoning it in Sanderling St at Inala before leaving in another vehicle, believed to be a black Holden Commodore. Police believe the same offenders may also be linked to a break and enter on Chermside St at Wellington Point, during which a black Volkswagen Golf GTI was stolen.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. “We urge anyone who may have seen these offenders or have any information to contact us immediately,” the spokesperson warned.
