A senseless tragedy has unfolded on the Pacific Highway, claiming the life of a cyclist who was struck by a truck on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
In a devastating incident, the rider was riding on the southbound lanes of the highway at Buladelah when the collision occurred at approximately 6am on Monday. Despite the best efforts of responding paramedics, the cyclist sadly succumbed to their injuries at the crash site.
The 58-year-old truck driver was shaken by the ordeal and was taken to Manning Base Hospital at Taree for mandatory testing. The identity of the cyclist is yet to be formally released.
The usually bustling Pacific Hwy was brought to a standstill as emergency services and crash investigators worked to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Southbound traffic was diverted through Bulahdelah Wy, with Live Traffic NSW advising that the detour route is suitable for all vehicles up to 26m B-doubles.
As the investigation continues, the Mid North Coast community is left to mourn the loss of a life cut short in a senseless tragedy. The crash serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of a moment’s inattention.
