In a heartbreaking development, a two-year-old girl has been found dead in a bucket of water at her family home in Brazil, leaving her parents and community in shock. Isabele Louise de Sousa Silva was discovered by her horrified mother in the bathroom of their house in São João da Canabrava, in the state of Piauí, on Christmas Eve.
According to investigators, Isabele is believed to have fallen headfirst into the bucket containing water and was unable to climb out. Sergeant Franco, a local military police commander, described the frantic moments leading up to the discovery. “The mother was outside the house, in the laundry room, washing some clothes, when she noticed the child was missing,” he said.
“Searching the house, she couldn’t find her, eventually locating her inside the bathroom, practically drowned. In despair, the mother pulled the nearly lifeless child out and called for help from the neighbours.”
Neighbours rushed to help and attempted to resuscitate Isabele while emergency assistance was called. The toddler was taken to the town’s local health unit, where first aid was given, before being transferred to a medical unit in the nearby town of Bocaina.
Her body was sent to the Justino Luz Regional Hospital in Picos for examinations to confirm the cause of death. Police are accompanying the case and are treating the incident as a domestic accident.
This tragedy comes just days after another toddler, Clara Vitoria, died in a devastating piranha attack in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. The two-year-old girl strayed from her home and fell into a river, where she was fatally attacked by the flesh-eating fish.
