US Unleashes FURY on Nigerian Islamic State Militants: More Than 100 Precision Strikes Wreak Havoc on Terrorist Bases
- Nigeria’s government requests US air strikes against Islamic State targets in response to deadly attacks on Christian communities
- Donald Trump vows to take drastic action to protect Christians, warning of “hell to pay” if violence continues
- US military confirms multiple militants killed in precision strikes on known ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites in Sokoto state
In a dramatic show of force, the US military has launched a devastating series of airstrikes against Islamic State militants in north-west Nigeria, killing multiple terrorists and targeting known ISIS strongholds. The operation, carried out at the request of the Nigerian government, comes after Donald Trump threatened military intervention to stop the “slaughter” of Christian communities in the region.
In a social media post, Trump warned, “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in north-west Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!”
The US Africa Command confirmed the strikes, saying they were carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities and targeted known ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites in Sokoto state. A video released by the Pentagon showed at least one projectile launched from a warship.
The strikes are a response to a series of deadly attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria, which Trump has described as an “existential threat” to Christianity. The US President has been vocal about his desire to take action, warning that “there would be hell to pay” if the Nigerian government did not stop the violence.
Nigeria’s foreign ministry has said the strikes are part of ongoing security cooperation between the two countries, involving intelligence sharing and strategic coordination to target militant groups. The country’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has called for peace and religious freedom in a Christmas message, saying he is committed to protecting all Nigerians from violence.
The US military’s actions come just days after a suspected suicide bomber killed at least five people and injured 35 others in Nigeria’s north-east, another region troubled by Islamist insurgents. The strikes are seen as a strong warning to militant groups operating in the region.
As the death toll rises, Trump has vowed to continue taking action, saying, “Under my leadership, our country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God bless our military, and Merry Christmas to all, including the dead terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
The US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has thanked the Nigerian government for its support and cooperation, adding, “More to come…”. As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the US is taking a strong stance against terrorism in Nigeria, and will stop at nothing to protect its citizens and allies.
