A devastating Boxing Day tragedy has unfolded on a Brisbane motorway, leaving a family in mourning after a 78-year-old man was fatally struck by another car as he stood outside his vehicle.
Emergency services rushed to the Logan Motorway in Forest Lake about 11.55am on Friday, responding to reports of a horror crash involving two Kia Ceratos. The elderly man, from Wilsonton, was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a shattered family and a community in shock.
Initial inquiries suggest the victim was the sole occupant of the blue Kia Cerato, which had pulled over into the emergency bay. It is believed he was outside the vehicle when the white Kia Cerato, driven by a 33-year-old woman from Cleveland, collided with him.
‘He was just standing there, and then… it’s just devastating,’ a witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said, struggling to come to terms with the tragic events that unfolded before their eyes.
The driver of the white Kia Cerato is assisting police with their investigation, which is ongoing. Authorities are now urging anyone with dashcam footage of the incident, or of either vehicle in the moments leading up to the crash, to come forward and help piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
As the investigation continues, police are appealing for witnesses to contact them, hoping that someone may have captured crucial footage that could help explain how this tragedy occurred.
