In a terrifying ordeal, a boy and a couple were left bloodied and bruised after a vicious dog attack in the NSW Hunter Region on Monday night. The large dog, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Mastiff cross, was ‘on the loose attacking people’ before police were forced to take drastic action.
The horror unfolded on Scott Cl at Raymond Terrace about 11pm, when a couple, aged 35 and 36, were walking along the street. Without warning, the dog pounced, leaving both victims injured. ‘The dog then ran into a house,’ police said, where it attacked a 14-year-old boy who was inside.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and assessed all three victims before taking them to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. Miraculously, their injuries were non-life threatening, but the trauma of the attack will undoubtedly linger.
Police were left with no choice but to euthanise the dog, but the question on everyone’s mind is: who was responsible for the ‘killer’ dog? Police are now working with local council rangers to identify the dog’s owner, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
‘We need to find out who was responsible for this dog,’ a police spokesperson said. ‘We urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers and help us bring the owner to justice.’
