As the clock ticks down to New Year’s Eve, soccer superstar Sam Kerr is preparing to tie the knot with her long-time partner Kristie Mewis in an intimate ceremony in Perth. The private residence will play host to around 120 guests, including teammates from the Matildas and the United States national team.
Mewis has been spilling the beans on the wedding details on her podcast Mewis Squared, revealing that Kerr will walk down the aisle with their 8-month-old son Jagger. “I feel like he’s a little too young to have a role but Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle which is very very sweet,” Mewis gushed.
Kerr’s partner of four years has also confessed that she’s stressing about not being able to give enough time to their guests. “Talking to 120 people in one night is a lot,” Mewis admitted. “I’m stressing about not being able to give enough time to everyone.”
Despite the chaos of the wedding preparations, Mewis can’t wait to see Kerr walk down the aisle with their little boy. “That is going to be gut wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens. He is probably going to be wearing a little matching outfit with her, it’s going to be absolutely adorable.”
The wedding will cap off a dramatic year for the couple, marked by injury, a court battle, and the birth of their first child. Kerr, 30, and Mewis, 33, became engaged in 2021 and welcomed their son in May 2024.
Kerr’s Matildas teammates are expected to be in attendance, with Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy already posting images from Perth’s beaches on social media in the lead-up to the event. The soccer superstar has had an illustrious career, debuting for the Matildas at just 15 and becoming Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Meanwhile, Mewis has played more than 50 times for the United States and was part of the squad that won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. At club level, she has represented the Houston Dash and Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League and signed with West Ham United in 2023.
Despite the excitement of the wedding, the couple won’t be jetting off on an extended honeymoon due to club football commitments. Kerr’s Chelsea team plays their next fixture on January 11 against West Ham United, just days after the wedding.
