A desperate marine search is under way to find a 14-year-old boy who went missing after a fatal boating accident on New Year’s Eve off the coast of Sydney.
The teenager was on board a vessel that capsized near Barrenjoey Headland at Palm Beach just after 11.30am on Wednesday, sparking a frantic rescue effort.
Tragically, one man who was pulled from the water by surf lifesavers couldn’t be saved despite the best efforts of paramedics. He is yet to be formally identified.
A second man who scrambled onto rocks was winched to safety by the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Marine Area Command, PolAir and Marine Rescue NSW have launched a massive search operation to find the missing teenager, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
As the search continues, police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information about the missing boy to contact Northern Beaches police or Crime Stoppers.
