In a devastating turn of events, a school holiday trip to Tasmania’s west coast ended in tragedy for 16-year-old Adasyn Wood Savin, who was killed in a horror crash on the Murchison Highway. The Newcastle teenager was visiting Rosebery with friends when the fatal accident occurred, leaving her family and community in shock.
According to police, Adasyn was riding a red Honda all-terrain vehicle when it collided with a Mitsubishi Triton, driven by a 40-year-old man, about 4.30pm on the highway between Zeehan and Rosebery. She died at the scene alongside a 38-year-old man, who was also riding the ATV.
A heart-wrenching fundraising page, set up by Adasyn’s friend Ella Mackrell, has already amassed over $17,000 in donations to support the family with funeral expenses, flights for Adasyn’s mother to travel to Tasmania, and accommodation costs. “No family should ever have to worry about finances while grieving the loss of their child,” the page reads.
In a poignant tribute, the fundraising page remembered Adasyn as a vibrant teenager who was “having fun, spending time with friends, and making memories the way any 16-year-old should”. Adasyn leaves behind her parents, Amber and Adam, her brothers James and Hayden, and her extended family and friends. Her brother Cooper, who had also passed away, was remembered in the post, with the family taking comfort in the thought that they are now “watching over their family from the stars”.
Tasmania Police said the driver of the Mitsubishi was not physically injured and will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing. A report will be prepared for the coroner, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. Anyone with information or dash cam footage is urged to contact police.
The fundraising page also thanked the interstate tourists who stopped to help at the scene, as well as emergency services, for their support and assistance during this difficult time.
