A devastating multi-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast has left a community in shock, with two toddler sisters fighting for their lives after a horror collision at a busy intersection.
The tragic accident occurred around midday at Banya, near Caloundra, when a truck slammed into a blue car carrying the two young girls and their mother. The impact was so severe that the car was pushed into a nearby building site, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the sisters, who suffered life-threatening injuries. One of the girls was initially taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital before being airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, where her sister was also transported for emergency treatment.
A witness to the crash, who claims to be a close friend of the family, revealed that he had spoken to the girls’ father, who is struggling to come to terms with the ordeal. “He’s in shock,” the witness said. “This is a nightmare scenario for any parent.”
The forensic crash unit has launched an investigation into the cause of the collision, which also left five other people injured. The children’s mother, a woman in her thirties, suffered head and chest injuries, while another patient, a driver in his sixties, suffered a medical episode.
All five patients have been taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, but the focus remains on the two young sisters, who are clinging to life in hospital.
