Thursday afternoon’s horrific crash on Main South Rd has left a community in shock, as a young motorcyclist’s life was tragically cut short in a collision with a truck.
The emergency call came in just before 3pm, with reports of a Benelli motorcycle and a Fuso truck involved in a deadly crash at Hackham. First responders rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the 24-year-old Old Noarlunga man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s just devastating,” said a witness, who wished to remain anonymous. “I saw the whole thing happen – it was like slow motion. The motorcycle just didn’t stand a chance against the truck.”
The truck driver, a 27-year-old Christies Beach man, was shaken but uninjured in the crash. He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing, as is standard procedure in fatal crashes.
Major Crash officers have launched an investigation into the tragedy and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash – or who may have dashcam footage – to come forward. “We need to piece together exactly what happened in the lead-up to this tragic event,” said a police spokesperson.
Main South Road was closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene, but has since reopened to traffic. The community is still reeling from the loss of the young motorcyclist, who becomes the fifth life lost on South Australian roads so far this year.
