A medical student with a bright future ahead of her has tragically died a month after being seriously injured in a devastating crash during a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west.
Lidija Faamau, 21, was studying a Bachelor of Medical Science at Western Sydney University and had her whole life ahead of her. But on December 10, her world was turned upside down when a stolen ute allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy slammed into the car she was in.
Police said the teenager, who was on bail at the time, had reached speeds of 140km/h during the pursuit before colliding with Faamau’s car on the Hume Highway. The ute allegedly drove through a red light before smashing into the BMW, leaving Faamau and her two friends fighting for their lives.
In a heartbreaking development, Faamau’s family confirmed that she had lost her fight for life, a month after the crash. Her friends have since been released from hospital, but the community is still reeling from the loss of a young life.
The 17-year-old boy has been charged with eight offences and remains before the courts. NSW Police said a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
