In a shocking discovery, Tasmania Police have uncovered a staggering arsenal of 40 guns and 250 kilograms of ammunition at a home in Launceston, northern Tasmania. The massive haul, which includes a rifle allegedly stolen over a decade ago, has left authorities stunned and raised concerns about public safety.
The 78-year-old homeowner, who has had his gun licence suspended, is now facing multiple firearms charges, including possessing a stolen firearm, possessing unregistered firearms, and failing to comply with prescribed storage of firearms and ammunition.
According to police, the raid on the Norwood property uncovered 31 registered firearms, but four of those were found illegally stored in a car in the backyard. A further eight firearms were allegedly unregistered and unsecured, while a silencer, insecure firearm parts, and insecurely stored ammunition were also discovered.
In a stark warning, a police spokesperson urged anyone with information about potential illegal gun activity to come forward, saying: “We urge anyone with information to call Triple Zero (000), or contact police on 131 444.
