Amy Scott, a NSW police officer, was commended for saving lives by shooting and killing a crazed gunman at a shopping center in Sydney’s Bondi Junction.
She said she was satisfied with her actions, but she had little sleep the night after the tragic incident.
As panicked shoppers ran out of the mall, Insp. Scott chased the gunman, who was reportedly armed with a knife.
He refused to put down the weapon, which prompted her to shoot him. Scott then administered first aid, but he was not able to survive.
Karen Webb, the NSW Police Commissioner, commended Insp. Scott for being incredibly courageous.
Chris Minns, the Premier of NSW, commended the officer for her bravery and said she saved many lives during the incident.
He also thanked the individuals who came out to help during the incident.
Before an individual can receive a bravery or hero award, they have to go through various committees.
Kevin Morton, the head of the NSW Police Association, said that Insp. Scott was satisfied with what she had to do to save the lives of the people at the mall.
Scott, who was named a hero, said she had little sleep last night.
During a press conference in Sydney, the Prime Minister of NSW, Anthony Albanese, said that she was aware that she was being regarded as a hero, but she was still focused on doing her job.
It came as a result of the officer’s extraordinary actions.
