Ukrainian national Silas Despreaux was identified as the man who prevented a knifeman from entering a children’s play area by holding a bollard.
He was called a “bollard man” after videos emerged of him confronting the attacker at Sydney’s Bondi Junction.
In a shocking video showing the attack, Mr. Despreaux can be seen holding a bollard in front of him as the assailant makes his way toward the escalator.
He then stops the knifeman from going up the stairs.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Mr. Despreaux claims to be a normal guy who doesn’t consider himself a hero.
Since the video was shared online, he has been praised as a hero by many people.
Despreaux has been praised for his bravery and courage by various people. One of the people who commended him was Donna Hooper.
According to Anthony Cooke, the police officer who was asked about the actions of Despreaux, the bystanders acted incredibly bravely.
Chris Minns, the NSW Premier, commended Despreaux’s actions.
He said that it was astonishing to see how many people were willing to put their lives in danger to save others.
