A fund set up to help the young victim of the tragic incident at Bondi Junction has raised over half a million dollars.
The page was set up by the family of the victim, who was identified as 38-year-old Ashlee Good.
She was killed while she was pushing her baby in her stroller.
The money raised will be used to support Ms. Good’s daughter, who is currently recovering in hospital.
Ms. Good was with her friend Harriet at Westfield when the incident occurred. She was attacked by Joel Cauchi at around 3:30 pm on Saturday.
Before he was shot and killed by police, Cauchi had stabbed over a dozen people.
According to witnesses, Ms. Good tried to protect her daughter from the attacker by giving her to two strangers. One of the victims said that the mother threw the baby at them.
Harriet said that she helped the mother and the baby by holding them and trying to keep them from bleeding.
They also shouted for help. Some of the family and friends of the victim, including Rebekah Giles from the prominent law firm Giles & Co., visited the makeshift memorial at Bondi Junction.
It has since grown into a massive display of support.
People from the public and the family of the victim visited the memorial site and placed flowers and candles at the spot where the mother was killed. According to one of the mourners, Ms. Good’s actions were typical of a mother who would protect her kids. Following her death, her family released a statement describing her as a beautiful person.
The family expressed their gratitude for the messages of support they’ve received from the public. They also thanked the NSW Police for their efforts in providing the necessary assistance to the baby.
In their statement, the family also thanked the individuals who helped the mother and her daughter during the tragic incident. They stated that they were struggling to come up with a proper explanation for what happened. On Monday, NSW police commissioner Karen Webb revealed that the killer was fixated on women and did not seek out men during the incident.
