Jake and Callum Robinson, who were on a surfing trip in Mexico, were killed in a robbery.
Their parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, broke down in tears upon hearing the news.
They were robbed after the car they were in drove by and spotted their tents and pick-up truck.
The brothers went missing on April 27 while camping at San Miguel Beach in Baja California.
Their bodies were discovered on a cliff on Saturday. Their distraught parents traveled to Mexico to help in the investigation.
In a statement, Debra Robinson said that the family is devastated by the loss of Jake and Callum.
They were both passionate about surfing and had a close friend named Carter Road.
It is now time for the family to bring the bodies of the brothers back to Australia. Debra also thanked the people who sent condolences.
She said they were overwhelmed by the support they had received.
Debra noted that they were always proud of their sons’ achievements in sports and academics. She also spoke of Callum’s larger-than-life personality and his love for lacrosse. She said that Jake was a compassionate and happy individual who was looking to become a doctor.
Jake loved surfing and was no coincidence that several of his hospitals were near beaches. On Sunday, the family visited a morgue in Ensenado, Mexico, to look for their sons’ remains. Instagram posts by the brothers revealed that they had been camping and surfing at Rosarito Beach before they disappeared.
In his final post, Jake wrote about San Miguel beach and the beautiful surroundings of Ensenada. He also posted a picture of their truck, which authorities believe was the same one that was later found burnt out. According to Mexico police, the two brothers were shot in their head while they were camping at Rosarito Beach.
Mexican authorities have apprehended three individuals who were allegedly found with drugs. These include Ari Gisel Garca, Gerardo Garcia Cota, and Christian Alejandro Garca. The bodies of these three individuals were found in a well near the campsite.
