Cam McCarthy, who played for both Greater Western Sydney and Fremantle in the Australian Football League from 2014 to 2020, died on Thursday evening.

The 29-year-old was found at Lake Coogee in Perth. The WA Police stated that McCarthy’s death was not suspicious.

A report will be prepared regarding the incident.

McCarthy was born in West Australia and was selected by the Giants with the 14th pick in the 2013 national draft.

After playing 21 games for the Giants, he left the club in 2015 due to homesickness and mental health issues. He then went to the Dockers after failing to secure a trade.

In four seasons with the Dockers, McCarthy played 49 games.

He was eventually delisted in 2020 after he was diagnosed with epilepsy.

During his last season, he collapsed during training. In total, McCarthy managed to play 70 games and kicked 99 goals.

Simon Garlick, the CEO of the club, released a statement regarding McCarthy’s death.

He stated that the entire organization was deeply saddened by the news and offered its condolences to his family.

McCarthy was known for being an easy-going individual.

He was an incredibly talented player who loved his football.
