Due to the introduction of new federal legislation aimed at increasing fuel efficiency, and the growing number of Australians who are more conscious of their environment, the debate about the use of electric cars has been heating up.
Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the technology or not, it’s clear that the days of internal combustion engines are numbered.
Despite the various advantages of electric cars, many people are still not convinced that they’re the right technology for the future of the auto industry.
On The Project, co-hosts Kate Langbroek and Waleed Aly discussed the latest reports about the decline in sales of electric cars in Australia.
During the discussion, Kate noted that thousands of Tesla cars are currently sitting at Australian ports due to the company’s failure to meet the demand.
The segment was also brought up by Quentin Wilson, a former host of the UK’s Top Gear.
He recently criticized the misleading portrayal of electric cars.
According to Wilson, some people are hesitant to buy electric cars due to the amount of misinformation about the technology.
However, Kate was not amused by his claims. She noted that it’s ironic that people would use the term “misinformation” when they don’t want something.
One of the main reasons why people are reluctant to buy electric cars is due to the lack of information.
According to her, she doesn’t want to wait four hours to recharge her vehicle because she doesn’t have a garage or an off-street parking space.
Aly, however, noted that the recent media coverage about the decline in sales was simply a result of the rising cost of living.
Waleed then accused the hosts of reporting the story in an attempt to make a beat up about it.
He noted that the report was only about the decline in sales compared to last year.
When Langbroek asked Aly why the story had been run, he said he didn’t know.
