Two children and four individuals, including a police officer, were seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident on the Gold Coast.
The incident occurred at around 1.20 p.m. at Helensvale, on the Pacific Motorway’s southbound lanes.
It’s believed that a police car was stopped in traffic when it was hit by another vehicle.
According to the police, a Mitsubishi Triton was traveling behind the police vehicle when it crashed into it.
The car was then destroyed, and emergency personnel were deployed to free trapped individuals.
A police officer and the driver of the Triton, as well as two of their passengers, were seriously injured in the accident.
All of the victims were taken to a Gold Coast University hospital in serious conditions.
John Nolan, a senior operations supervisor for the Queensland Ambulance Service, said it was fortunate no one died.
He noted that an off-duty officer who witnessed the accident stopped to help the victims.
The impact on the police car pushed the stationary vehicle about a hundred meters away.
It then collided with the back of the officer’s car, causing no injuries to the officer.
As a result, Nolan has urged all drivers to obey the road rules and speed limit.
