Brian Garven, a 40-year-old father of four, died after he was struck by a train while he was crossing the tracks at the Salisbury Interchange in South Australia.
His former partner said the incident was a freak accident.
Garven was on his way to Trinidad’s house to pick up some painkillers.
According to Trinidad, he told her that he was 15 minutes away from Salisbury and that he would be home soon.
A couple of seconds later, she heard a train horn. She tried to call him back, but his phone would not answer.
A couple of hours later, the police officers at her door informed her that Garven had died.
The incident was not considered a major issue at the crossing infrastructure, according to the South Australia Police and Infrastructure Department.
They urged pedestrians to always take the necessary safety precautions when crossing the tracks.
