Residents of the southeast were warned to prepare for windy and wild conditions on Wednesday, as strong winds and gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour were expected to hit parts of NSW and Victoria.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather alert for the region, warning that damaging winds would affect the Southern Tablelands, Illawarra, Snowy Mountains, and Central Tablelands in NSW.
The weather agency noted that a cold front would move across the southeast portion of the state on Wednesday.
It said that strong northwest to west winds would affect elevated regions and their immediate slopes.
Gusts of up to 90 km/h were expected in some parts of the Southern Highlands, Illawarra, and South Coast.
The agency noted that strong winds would affect areas such as Nowra, Bowral, Nerriga, and Katoomba.
It also reported that it had recorded a gust of over 98 kilometers per hour at Mount Boyce west of Sydney.
East Gippsland was expected to be affected by south-to-west winds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour with peak gusts of 90 kilometers per hour.
Meteorologist Angus Hines noted that the weather conditions would begin to ease from Wednesday evening.
He said that the strong winds would most likely die out as a result of a high pressure system that would move across the Tasman Sea.
The SES in NSW and Victoria advised residents to secure loose objects around their homes and avoid getting in the way of power lines.
