Abbey Holmes and Lachie Neale addressed the controversy that was created by their televised kiss.
The co-captain of the Brisbane Lions, who was interviewed by Holmes of Channel 7 after the team’s match against the Western Bulldogs, kissed the presenter on the cheek.
Both Neale and Holmes are close friends off the field. They both have no problem with each other kissing on television.
The moment has since sparked controversy, with some questioning if it was appropriate.
On Monday, Neale appeared on Channel 9 to promote the bank’s “Vehicle for Kindness” campaign.
It occurred to Holmes as a surprise, as she had no idea about it until recently.
On Monday, she told the LiSTNR podcast that the reaction to the kiss had been upsetting.
She noted that she and Neale are close friends, and that greeting one another is something they do regularly.
She also stated that she was upset by how the situation had been blown out of proportion.
She noted that it was not the first time that she had received a hug or kiss from a teammate.
Over the course of her career, Holmes has built strong relationships with various individuals, including coaches and players.
She said that she was upset that her friends might feel uncomfortable when she greeted them or goodbyes.
She added that she felt as though the situation had been taken out of proportion.
Holmes revealed that, in an attempt to reassure her, Neale’s wife, Jules, sent her a message saying that the situation was ridiculous.
She then said that she knew Lachie was a friend of hers, which made her feel better.
