According to reports, the man accused of killing a woman in the city of Mackay, Queensland, had over a dozen firearms with him.
The woman, who was 34 years old, was shot as she sat in her car with two children, ages 11 and 12, in Robb Place.
The man was also charged with shooting another man, who was 66 years old.
He appeared in court today and was remanded in custody.
The police noted that the suspect had been a licensed firearms owner, and they were looking into reports that he may have owned up to twelve guns.
Novosel said that the suspect, who was 31 years old, was the woman’s next-door neighbor.
She noted that the police were still trying to determine a motive for the attack.
There had been minimal interaction between the suspect and the law enforcers.
According to Novosel, the suspect used a revolver to fire a single shot at the two victims.
The woman was supposed to take her two daughters to a sporting event as the incident occurred.
The girls managed to run away from the scene.
They eventually reached the residence of a 66-year old man, who was also shot as the suspect approached the area.
Novosel commended the bravery of the young girls who witnessed the incident, which she said was tragic.
She also noted that the 66-year-old victim had been speaking with detectives from the hospital.
He is expected to undergo surgery later today due to his injuries.
Before the police arrived, the gunman fled the scene in his Mitsubishi Triton.
The law enforcers then locked down various streets as they tried to find the suspect.
He was eventually apprehended at a service station on the Bruce Highway.
