On Wednesday, Services Australia announced that Australian caregivers will receive an extra $600 in July as a part of their ongoing Centrelink payments. The money will be deposited into their bank accounts from July 3 to August 2.
According to government data, over 300,000 Australians rely on the Carer Payment to support themselves due to the demands placed on them by their caregiving duties.
This additional payment can also be used to supplement other income support payments.
The Carer Allowance is for caregivers who provide care for people with a disability or a serious medical condition.
This payment will be used to supplement the Carer Allowance and the Partner Service Pension of Veterans’ Affairs.
Services Australia noted that this payment will not be distributed to all recipients.
According to Services Australia, the amount of money that a caregiver receives depends on the percentage of the care that they provide.
For instance, if they provide care for two individuals, they will receive two Carer Supplements for each payment.
For instance, a caregiver who receives three payments of the Carer Payment will receive three Carer Supplement payments of around $1800.
Caregivers who provide partial support to a loved one will also receive a Carer Supplement based on the amount of care they provide.
Services Australia explained that this payment doesn’t affect their taxable income.
