A court in Perth will be sentencing Karen Salkilld, 42, who on February 27 made a fraudulent life insurance claim of over $718,000 after faking her death in a car crash in December.

When 9News reporter found her in a car park in Perth, Salkilld refused to answer any of our questions.

She provided a fake death certificate, a delegate letter from the coroner’s office, and a record of the investigation regarding her death.

The insurance firm paid the claim the following week into Salkilld’s bank account.

Over the next couple of days, she made multiple payments using the account.

Unfortunately, the bank flagged the account and froze it due to its nature.

After trying to unfreeze it, Salkilld went to the Palmyra police station, where an officer verified her ID.

The documents were altered before they were submitted to the bank, and they didn’t go through the bank’s authentication process.

Despite her criminal actions, Salkilld was still maintaining her usual life.

She went to her Applecross business and met up with her friends.

Salkilld is a former professional football player who now works as an assistant coach for the East Fremantle Shark football team.

She was arrested in March. She appeared in court and pleaded guilty to two charges. She could be sentenced to up to seven years imprisonment.
