Residents in Australia’s remote regions should prepare for the possibility of flooding, as the season’s worth of rainfall is expected to hit the area in the next couple of weeks.
According to WeatherZone, the powerful high-pressure system that’ll affect the country from the east is expected to interact with an upper-level low pressure system that’s currently over the continent.
Unusually heavy rain is expected to occur over a wide area in eastern and central Australia due to the interaction of atmospheric moisture and the upper low.
It will begin to affect South Australia on Friday and continue through the weekend.
The rain will then spread to Queensland and NSW from Sunday.
According to Weatherzone, up to 40mm of rain is expected to occur in some areas, such as northern NSW, southern Queensland, and South Australia.
It’s also expected to cause isolated heavy downpours of up to 60mm.
The agency noted that the heavy rain could cause rail and road closures due to the potential of flooding in the region.
