An 8-year-old child was killed and ten others were injured in a horror crash that happened in the Northern Territory on Sunday. According to the police, alcohol was a factor in the crash, which happened on Mardiyardu Road.

The vehicle, which was carrying 11 passengers, was traveling between the towns of Lajamanu and Kalkarindji.

The child was allegedly taken back to Kalkarindji, where Care Flight teams were then called.

According to the police, the child died a short time later.

The driver, who was 29 years old at the time of the incident, and nine other passengers were not seriously injured.

Two crime scenes were then established, one at the scene and another at the vehicle.

Detective Richard Musgrave explained that due to the remote location of where the incident occurred, communication from the scene was not possible.

He noted that the crash was complex and resulted in the death of the child.

The local police are providing assistance to the families affected by the incident.
