In March, Kyle Sandilands claimed that his breakfast show with co-host Jackie O would be the top-rated show in Melbourne by the end of the year, and the latest ratings show that released on Tuesday indicates that they will have a hard time making that happen.
The Kyle & Jackie O Show had a 5.9 percent share of the city’s radio ratings, making it the sixth-highest-rated program.
Prior to the launch of the Kyle and Jackie O Show on April 29, Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1FM had been playing music in the breakfast slot.
Despite the lack of improvement in its ratings, the program was able to increase its audience.
According to Craig Bruce, the host of a podcast about Melbourne radio, the Kyle and Jackie O Show’s positive start has been attributed to the 50,000 new listeners that it has attracted.
However, he noted that the program’s trajectory in the city will be slower than usual.
ARN’s Duncan Campbell was also positive about the program’s ratings performance in Melbourne.
He noted that although it will take some time for the program to gain a following in the city, he is confident that it will continue to attract a similar audience to that of Sydney.
Despite the positive start of the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Bruce noted that it will not be easy for them to dethrone the top-rated program in Melbourne, the Christian O’Connell Show from Gold FM.
The program had a 10.8 percent share of the city’s radio ratings, while Nova’s Jase and Lauren had a 9 percent share.
According to Bruce, the strength of Nova’s Lauren and Jase may be too much for Jackie and Kyle to overcome.
The pair have gained the most listeners to the breakfast show genre.
