Actor Neil Patrick Harris revealed that he is currently going through a difficult time following the death of his beloved dog Ella. The dog was one of his family pets.
In his newsletter, the actor noted that he was not able to cope with his grief properly because he didn’t want to share it with everyone.
He and his wife David Burtka were recently in New Hampshire for a vacation. While they were there, Harris said that something terrible happened to his family.
During the vacation, Michael, a close friend of Harris, was watching the family’s four dogs.
According to the actor, he received a phone call at around 6:30 am, and he was informed that Ella had died.
The dog was reportedly killed in a freak accident caused by a tree branch. Harris then found Ella lying in the grass in the front yard.
According to a family friend, the tree branch got caught in Ella’s collar, and it then wrapped around her neck as she tried to get it out.
She was reportedly choked or strangled. Part of the branch was stuck in her mouth.
“Ella’s dead,” Harris continued. He then shared the story about how the dog got her name. Ella was named after Eleanor Zajas, his maternal grandmother.
The dog’s middle name was suggested by Harris’ dad, who thought it was a funny name. Ella was born in December 2020.
The dog was a Christmas gift from Santa Claus, according to the actor.
Ella was regarded as the most beautiful dog in Harris’ family. She was loved by both his wife David and his children Harper and Gideon.
The dog was also Harris’ favorite. He noted that he doesn’t want to share the news about Ella’s death on Instagram because he doesn’t want to get the hateful comments that would come from it.
