Charlotte Caslick, a member of the Australian women’s rugby sevens team, reportedly deleted a post she made on social media following the team’s loss in the Olympics in Paris.
The women’s team won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and are considered favorites to win another one in the upcoming games.
For the second consecutive Olympics, Australia failed to get a medal.
This week, the team lost both of its matches, and captain Caslick posted a picture of herself in a Paris nightclub, only to later delete it.
In the picture, Caslick posed with five male companions. The caption read, “4th on it, but always 1st off.”
It was interpreted as a reference to the women’s team, which came in fourth place.
According to the Daily Mail, Caslick then deleted the post.
It’s not clear why Caslick deleted the post, but many people felt it was a poor look since her teammates were so devastated after failing to medal.
Caslick’s behavior seemed to go against the spirit of the team, as it was apparent that she was celebrating after posting a photo on social media showing herself in a nightclub.
In the photo, Caslick is posing with five male companions. With the caption, she presumably refers to the fourth-place finish of the women’s rugby sevens team.
The Daily Mail claimed that she took the picture down immediately after it was posted.
Although it’s not clear why she deleted the post, many people felt it was a bad look because of how her teammates were feeling after failing to get a medal.
Caslick was forgiven for letting her hair down after the Olympics, but the sight of her celebrating didn’t go well.
Tim Walsh, the team’s coach, said that it was cruel to label finishing fourth as a failure.
In the semi-final match against Canada, Australia led 12-0, but they lost 21-12 due to the hot and humid conditions.
This defeat relegated the team to a matchup against the USA for the bronze.
