The struggling 2DayFM show Hughesy, Ed, and Erin was taken off the air immediately after the host reportedly refused to relocate.
The program’s producers announced that Erin Molan, who has been hosting the show for three and a half years, was no longer with the station.
The sudden termination of the program shocked the media industry due to the amount of time left in its programming, which includes a trio of surveys.
In a statement, the producers of the show said that they were leaving the station due to their families’ moving out.
The statement thanked the listeners of the show for their support.
The hosts also noted that they had been able to boost the number of listeners in the past three years.
However, it was believed that the decision to remove the program was made by Hughes, who was traveling to Sydney from Melbourne.
Aside from hosting the show, Hughes also tours the country and performs corporate gigs.
According to reports, his wife became frustrated by his constant back and forth between Sydney and Melbourne, which prevented him from being with his family.
It was also reported that he decided to remain in Melbourne and not renew his contract, which was set to end this year.
In September 2023, Hughes revealed that he was offered a new contract. He said that he was very happy with the prospect of continuing his program.
In his interview, Hughes said that he was still not sure if he would continue with the program due to his wife’s not being as enamoured of his lifestyle.
He reportedly informed the station’s management about his decision this past week. It was then reported that the program was immediately removed from the air following the show on Wednesday.
To address the station’s ongoing programming issues, the Jimmy & Nath Show will transition to a breakfast program until a new host can be found.
2DayFM was struggling to replace the popular Kyle & Jackie O Show, which left the station in 2014.
The removal of the Hughesy, Ed, and Erin show is the latest example of the declining popularity of breakfast programs in Australia.
