Shane Webcke will step down from his role as the sports presenter for 7NEWS Brisbane in January, but will remain with the network for its coverage of the National Rugby League.
He said he decided to leave the news desk after 18 years because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
“After 18 years presenting sport for 7NEWS Brisbane, I’ve made the decision to take a slightly new direction and from January I’ll be stepping back from the news desk,” he said.
He will continue to appear on 7NEWS alongside his friend and fellow sports presenter Gilly.
He thanked the network for supporting him during his career.
The announcement comes following the recent changes in the local media in Brisbane, with the departure of Sharyn Ghidella.
