A four-year-old girl was bitten by a dingo on K’gari Island, which used to be called Fraser Island.

The incident happened at around 11.15 am on Saturday.

The girl and her eight other friends were fishing near NgKala Rocks when the dingoes started to loiter around.

The girl was attacked by a male dingo. It caused bruising, lacerations, and a puncture wound.

She was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital for precautionary reasons. Rangers from the QPWS were dispatched to check on the animal.

The Environment Department warned fishers to keep away from dingoes and relocate them whenever they come into contact with people.

This incident occurred just a couple of months after a young boy was bitten by one of the animals.

People are urged to be vigilant and keep children at arm’s length when visiting K’gari.

They should also carry a stick if they encounter the dingoes.
