A volunteer firefighter died after he was hit by a car that was being driven by a police officer on Flinders Island, Tasmania, on Saturday night.

According to police, the man, who was in his 60s, died after he was hit by the car while he was walking on Lady Baron Road.

The officer immediately called for help and attempted CPR.

The man, who was from Lackrana, was killed at the scene.

Adrian Bodnar, the assistant commissioner of the Tasmania Police, said that the officer was traveling at a speed that was within the limit.

He noted that the officer was not responding to an incident when the accident occurred.

An investigation is currently being conducted to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Bodnar noted that the man had reportedly crossed the road before he was hit by the police car.

The incident will have a significant impact on the emergency personnel and the community.

Although the police officer wasn’t seriously injured, he was distressed by the incident.
